Video Interview—Joe R. Lansdale

In the two years I've been conducting interviews, there's been only one author who leaves me star struck whenever I sit down with him:

Joe R. Lansdale.

As most of you know, Lansdale's been an enormous influence on me since my teens (You can read my tribute to Joe right HERE over at Spinetingler) and I always feel very fortunate that the legendary author is willing to sit down with me year-after-year.

And on April 16th, I sat down again with Lansdale at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ to discuss Joe's latest Hap and Leonard novel, Devil Red, his upcoming Young Adult novels, and his future projects with Mulholland Books

Video Interview—Dave Zeltserman

In recent years, Dave Zeltserman has become one of the most prevalent and prolific crime novelists to emerge from the 2000’s. His loose ‘Man Out Of Prison’ trilogy—Small Crimes, Pariah, and Killer—were critically lauded by media outlets as far ranging as NPR, the Boston Globe, Publishers Weekly, and the Washington Post, describing the three novels as:

“…..A thing of beauty: spare but ingeniously twisted.”

"A dozy of a doom-laden crime story that not only makes merry with the justice system but also satirizes the publishing industry"

“Spare prose and assured pacing place this above most other contemporary noirs."

Since publishing the trilogy, Zeltserman has gone on to garner further acclaim with his satirical supernatural horror novel, The Caretaker of Lorne Field, and with his most recently published heist thriller, Outsourced.

Zeltserman has also gone on to be a pioneer in the realm of eBooks with the release of his short story collection 21 Tales, the award winning Julius Katz, and the intense pulp novel, Blood Crimes.

On February 15^th I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with Zeltserman at the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, AZ to discuss Blood Crimes, Outsourced, his experiences with the publishing and film industry, and his upcoming writing projects.

Video Interview—Vicki Hendricks

It seems to be Vicki Hendricks appreciation week on the old interweb. First Nigel Bird features Hendricks' self-interview at his always entertaining blog, Sea Minor. Next, Crimefactory irregular, the Nerd of Noir, reviews Hendricks' stellar short story collection, Florida Gothic Stories, over at Spinetingler Magazine. So I figured I'd finish things off with my video interview with Ms. Hendricks at the Poisoned Pen from this past summer.

In case you're unfamiliar with the notorious Ms. Hendricks, she's the author of five brilliant crime novels (Cruel Poetry, Miami Purity, Sky Blues, Iguana Love, and Voluntary Madness) and a brilliant short story collection, Florida Gothic Stories. Ms. Hendricks is also the sole female member of the recently formed e-book collective, Top Suspense Group.

I interviewed Ms. Hendricks at the Poisoned Pen conference at the end of an extremely busy, hot day and she was gracious enough to sit down with me to discuss Florida Gothic Stories, the current state of short fiction, and her current work in progress.

Video interview—Hilary Davidson

You can’t help but like Hilary Davidson. As a person, she’s a warm, inviting presence and like most crime writers, a stark contrast to her menacing fiction. I discovered Davidson’s writing through her Spinetingler award winning short story, “Insatiable”. The story of sexual dysfunction was one of my favorites of 2009 and I eagerly anticipated her debut novel, the Damage Done. On November 2^nd, I was lucky enough to sit down with Davidson before her appearance at the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, AZ to discuss the Damage Done, her writing process, the Gluten Free guidebook, and her future writing projects.
